Charlie Jui, John Matthews, and Julie Callahan of the Telescope Array recently appeared on Field Trip Zoom, an online service that provides "virtual field trips" for their online subscribers. The event consisted of a number of live-streamed presentations, as well as question and answer sessions with the students who were participating online. The researchers discussed the history of cosmic ray research, as well as the discoveries that have been made at the Telescope Array. They also discussed the recent discovery of the cosmic ray "hotspot" and the upcoming expansion to the project that hopes to uncover more information about this phenomenon.
The presentation ended with a live demonstration of a cloud chamber, allowing the audience to see the trails left behind by subatomic particles, much like those observed by the Telescope Array.
