The article looks back at Matthews’ research over the years, following his trajectory from taking math classes in high school to participating with an international team of scientists in studying the most powerful particles in the universe. The article emphasizes the importance of developing skill in mathematics in order to succeed in scientific fields.
“I had good math teachers in middle school and moved onto high school geometry with [the late] Mr. [Jerald] Young, and took more math in college,” said Matthews.
